JetBrains is rolling out JetBrains Central, a new platform designed to help development teams oversee and coordinate growing fleets of AI coding agents. Positioned as an agentic development hub, it gives organizations a unified way to manage automation, maintain visibility, and keep human developers in control of AI‑driven work.
An early access program for JetBrains Central is planned for the second quarter of 2026, with a small group of design partners getting the first look. JetBrains describes the product as a control and execution layer for agent‑based software development, aiming to solve problems such as fragmented oversight, inconsistent behavior, and limited control as teams scale up their use of different agents.
According to the company’s announcement, JetBrains Central functions as an orchestration layer for agentic workflows and integrates tightly with existing JetBrains tools, including the Air agentic development environment and the Junie LLM‑agnostic coding agent. It connects development tools, agents, and infrastructure into a single system where automated tasks can be defined, executed, and governed across teams. Developers can trigger and monitor agent workflows from JetBrains IDEs, third‑party IDEs, command‑line tools, web interfaces, or other automated systems, while the agents themselves may come from JetBrains or external ecosystems such as Codex, Gemini‑based CLIs, or custom in‑house agents.
A key goal of JetBrains Central is to ensure agents work with the right context and within real delivery pipelines. The platform links agents to code repositories, documentation, and APIs, and allows them to interact directly with Git, CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments, and other operational systems. When an agent needs clarification or completes part of a task, it can hand off updates or questions to human teammates via familiar communication channels like Slack or Atlassian tools, keeping AI workflows inside the same collaboration environment developers already use.
JetBrains highlights several core capability areas for the new platform. Governance and control features focus on policy enforcement, identity and access management, observability, audit trails, and cost tracking for agent‑generated work, some of which are already exposed through the JetBrains Central Console. On the infrastructure side, a managed execution layer provides cloud runtimes and compute provisioning to run agents reliably across various development environments. Finally, optimization and context‑management features supply a shared semantic layer across repositories and projects, helping agents retrieve relevant knowledge and route tasks to the most suitable models or tools.
